Tasting Notes
Burghound – 91-93
(Outstanding) A slightly riper mix combines notes of poached plum, mocha, jasmine tea and plenty of floral elements. The rich, concentrated, mouth coating and sappy medium-bodied flavors exhibit very good power on the generously proportioned yet quite serious, youthfully austere and built-to-age finish. This firm effort will need at least a few years to better harmonize but the potential to do so is clearly present.

70% whole clusters. Cask sample. Becoming repetitive – that elegance and poise. This is very fine, modestly weighted but persistent. A perfect infusion? (MH)

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has an intense bouquet yet very well defined with pixelated red berry fruit, crushed stone and a touch of violet. The oak and stems are perfectly integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, lightly peppered with a strict, more Malconsorts-like finish that feels stern at the moment but will mellow with time. Good potential but needs patience.
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2050
Decanter – 95
Dark plum and mulberry fruit, hints of peppery spice, plus an accent of smoke and leather. The texture is dense and long, and the tannins, while supple, are very much present to ensure a lingering finish. The 0.38ha Mugneret parcel of Suchots is at the top of the slope in the part some unofficially call ‘Grand Suchots’. In 2020, the grapes were fermented as 70% whole clusters and aged in cask (30% new) using very little sulphur to give this wine of impressive concentration.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2050

Dense black purple. A noble nose too, I am liking Suchots this year in a number of cellars. Having said which, the Mugneret holding is at the top of the slope, close to the ‘Grands Suchots’ of Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux. The fruit really kicks on behind, with a little white pepper, and then a pure long floral finish, roses and red fruit, less evident acidity, pure poise.
