Tasting Notes
Jasper Morris – 95-97
15% of whole cluster, which shows to a surprising degree on the nose. The colour is typically intense purple. The bouquet is still very heady, but the aromatics have an additional florality and the fruit stretches further on the palate. Still quite a lush texture, black fruit slightly to the fore. The 2020 Echezeaux has a really fine long finish with some juicy red fruit. 13.7% alcohol.
Decanter – 95
This bottling is consistently among my favorite Echézeaux. It is blended from grapes grown in Les Quartier de Nuits and Rouges du Bas that are destemmed and given a cold soak before a gentle fermentation and 18 months ageing in cask. The result has an incredibly expressive raspberry and cassis fruit with a pronounced floral note, and hints of spice, smoke and leather. The texture is lovely and dense, and the wine lingers enticingly on the finish. Superb. This wine is both approachable early and eminently ageworthy.
