Tasting Notes
JancisRobinson.com – 17
Monopole of less than 2 ha. South of Morey. Unracked cask sample. Very Morey and lots of clay. Savoury and very appetising on the nose. Juice and finesse. Quite solid but with real grip and future. Dry finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2027-2042
Robert Parker – 92
Unwinding in the glass with aromas of raspberries, smoky cherries, rich soil tones and warm spices, Roumier’s 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussiere is medium to full-bodied, lively and vibrant, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by youthfully chalky tannins that assert themselves on the finish. The most underrated wine in the Roumier cellar, this is a fine prospect for the patient.
Decanter – 95
From a 2.59ha monopole of the domaine in Morey and fermented a bit more than half as whole clusters. The result is impressively dense, with a darker, plummy cast to the fruit and notes of bramble and garrigue. There is plenty of structure here, but also a surprising elegance and finesse. The wine comes together to a surprisingly persistent finish.
Jasper Morris – 92-94
Glowing fresh purple, and indeed a fresher quality of purple fruit. Tightly knit with a powerful dark fruit behind, a little bit wilder in the finish, always characteristic, with a firm structure and considerable ageing potential.
Burghound – 92
Ripe yet agreeably fresh aromas include those of poached plum, spice, violet and plenty of newly turned earth wisps. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the fleshy and rounded medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a firm, mildly rustic and warm finale. This should repay a decade plus of keeping yet be approachable after 6 to 8 years if that’s your preference.
