Tasting Notes
Burghound – 90-92
Exotic fruit hints add breadth to the floral, citrus and white peach aromas. There is impressive power and richness to the much larger-scaled flavors that flash hints of melon and pineapple on the sappy and lingering finish. This isn’t classic as there is suggestion of chardonnay muscaté on the finish, yet it manages to work anyway.
Vinous – 90-92
The 2019 Corton Blanc Grand Cru has fine intensity on a nose of crushed rock mixed with yellow flower and light petrolly aromas. The palate is well balanced with a honeyed-textured opening. Moderate acidity here, building nicely in the mouth but not quite “kicking on” toward the finish due to some reduction. It should come around in the end.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2030
Decanter – 91
Chardonnay from three parcels totaling 0.6ha, planted on the upper slopes of Bressandes (80%) and Chaumes (20%). The fruit is whole-cluster pressed prior to fermentation, with a touch of new oak to produce this wine with bright, lemony fruit and a firm, flinty minerality up front, opening on the palate to reveal a rich, substantial texture, then a hint of fresh cream and rewarding length.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039
Jasper Morris – 92-95
This was late to finish fermenting, but in tasteable condition. It has been made in one new Stockinger foudre of 10hl, the rest in normal sized older wood. Still full of primary aromatics, lactic too, just a question of the moment. It feels like a heavyweight behind. Decent weight to this, and a fresh thread through the middle. This should be good in its red soil way. Good decision to pick early, end August.
