Tasting Notes
Jasper Morris – 90-93
This vineyard was only separated out in 1999 when Cyprien arrived. It is going to struggle today because I am tasting it immediately after the sublime Morey Les Ruchots. Deep ripe purple. The bouquet indeed does not make much impact after the wine before. On the palate, there is a considerable depth of dark fruit and it has not got too cooked, but the tannins are a touch drier.
Burghound – 89-92
Here there is no reduction with a markedly ripe nose that reflects notes of liqueur-like dark berries, spice, violet and soft earth. The sleeker but less rich and voluminous flavors possess more evident minerality on the austere and somewhat one-dimensional though nicely powerful finish. This of course should add more depth with time but it’s not clear that it will catch the best of these 1ers.
