Tasting Notes
JancisRobinson.com – 17
Deepish crimson. Ripe, sweet and generous on the nose, with both fresh and dried cherry. It seems a little bit flat on the palate at the moment, the tannins tying everything to the ground, but it is still in barrel and I think with these refined and attractively dry tannins it will flower with time. Burghound – 90-93
Subtle but not invisible wood frames the violet, spice and earth-suffused cassis and plum-scented nose. The velvety and exceptionally rich flavors possess a different and more seductive texture than usual if perhaps a bit less minerality, all wrapped in a firm, serious and youthfully austere finish. Patience required but this is very promising.
Jasper Morris – 92-95
60 year old vines which always ripen well, 14% alcohol this year. Black centre with a purple rim. Some dense dark fruit with a little black cherry but still quite closed. Lively as well as luscious on the palate, bringing its black fruit, especially the cherries with it without losing the elegance both of the domaine’s style and of Chaignots’ proximity to Vosne. Fine balanced finish.
