Decanter – 94
This wine of great purity and expressive character comes from 65-year-old vines planted in just 35-50cm of soil directly over limestone at 335 metres elevation on the Puligny side of Blagny. The result is riveting, with intense lemony fruit touched with smoke, mineral, and a saline edge on the nose. Crisp, juicy texture that nevertheless has all the substance one could want for long ageing. This needs a bit of time but should be a wine for the ages.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2041
Vinous – 91
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny 1er Cru has a crisp, slightly flinty bouquet that unfolds nicely in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a malic entry, quite terse at first and steely on the finish, a little vanilla and almond lingering on the aftertaste. Very fine.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2036
Jasper Morris – 90
Bottled in May 2020. Light colour with a gentle bouquet, there is too much oak effect on the palate for the moment, but as it does not dry out the wine we shall forgive that. A certain softness, reasonable length.
