Tasting Notes
Burghound – 92
(Sweet spot Outstanding) This too is conspicuously floral in character with its more elegant and spicier aromas of both red and dark pinot fruit that is cut with hints of earth, anise and violet. There is even better volume and power to the muscular and lightly mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in a compact, dusty and very serious finale. This appears to be quite promising though note well that at least moderate patience is advised.
Vinous – 90
The 2018 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru comes from the top of the incline. It has quite an intense bouquet of cranberry, strawberry, orange peel and light tomato vine aromas, all well defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry. Very pure in style, leading to a bright finish that is endowed with Pommard-like structure. Drink over the next decade.
