Tasting Notes
Vinous – 94
The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a sensual nose with vivacious red berry fruit, orange pith and light tertiary scents, becoming more and more loamy whilst retaining delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, creamy in texture that belies the structure underneath. Judiciously spiced towards the finish with just a very subtle menthol note, this is a classy offering. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2048
Jasper Morris – 93
A deep and slightly darker purple, with more reduction on the nose. The fruit builds impressively behind. When the reduction lifts, as I think it will, this will be a wine of great joy. Dark strawberry notes at the back of the palate and a ripe sensuality at the long finish. The reduction just takes the edge off at the moment.
