Tasting Notes

Mid crimson, this is more evolved on the nose, could well have some whole bunches too. A little bit drier than the first wine, slightly redder fruit, still a very good wine with quite a long finish.

A cool, spicy and fresh combination consists of plenty of floral influences to the pretty red and dark pinot, Asian-tea and sandalwood aromas. There is exceptional richness to the notably more concentrated flavors that offer good length if only average depth on the mocha-infused finish. My projected range assumes that more complexity will develop with time in bottle as this wine has an excellent track record in that regard.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru contains 70% whole bunch fruit. It has a charming red cherry and crushed strawberry bouquet with fine delineation. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity and pretty tart red fruit, but I would be seeking just a little more substance on the finish. Perhaps that will develop by the end of élevage.

70% whole bunch. From barrel but will go to tank tomorrow and probably be bottled 5 January. Mid cherry red. Expressive and spicy exuberant red fruits on the nose. Lots of fruit sweetness. With a fine floral note. On the palate, however, much less exuberant, closed, and the tannins seem quite dry. Lots of freshness but the palate seems disappointing because rather closed ” hard to judge now. The texture is fine but the fruit is hiding on the mid palate. (JH)
