Tasting Notes
Vinous – 92
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has a little more complexity and precision on the nose compared to the Les Suchots, displaying scents of raspberry, strawberry and Swiss roll. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin and gentle grip. Quite linear, but shows more substance on the finish compared to the Les Suchots. Very fine.

Burghound – 91-93
(Outstanding) A more restrained but equally pretty nose speaks of spiced liqueur-like aromas of various dark berries including cassis, plum and orange pekoe tea. There is a really lovely sense of vibrancy to the more mineral-detailed flavors that are blessed with even more mid-palate density before concluding in a firm, serious and beautifully persistent finale. This well-balanced effort should reward a decade plus of cellaring.
Jasper Morris – 93-96
70% whole bunch vinification. Still in barrel. Glowing bright purple, with a dense ripe dark fruit rather hiding the stems. There is a more substantial volume of fruit compared to the Suchots, a few firmer tannins behind, more that than whole bunch, considerable density here but it needs more elevage. Which it will get through to the early spring.
JancisRobinson.com – 17/20
Very old vines. 70% whole bunch. This parcel just 200 m away from Les Suchots. 25% new oak. Barrel sample. Mid to deep cherry red. Smells ripe, richly fruity with a touch of spice on the nose. A hint of vanilla and richness on the palate too. Dry texture but fluid fruit to fill it out. Seems better integrated and has more flesh on the palate than Les Suchots. (JH)
