Vinous – 91
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Combottes 1er Cru has a very pure, floral bouquet of mainly dark berry fruit tinctured with subtle hints of pressed iris and incense. Undergrowth scents emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a crunchy blackberry and raspberry opening, very natural and refined. Not a powerful Les Combottes, but focused on the finish. I would just like a bit more "oomph" once in bottle.

25% new oak, 40″45% whole bunch. Good, quick ripening here. Old river bed that came from the combe. Like a little dell shape that keeps the sun. Stony soils so the day and night temperature swings are not as big as elsewhere. Barrel sample. Richer and sweeter on the nose than the Clos de la Bussiere but still dark fruited. Smells more voluptuous. But on the palate, it is elegantly slim and fine-boned. Another restrained beauty even though the tannins are perfect for the harmony of the whole. Succulent even in that dark elegance and then a hint of violets on the finish, very long. (JH)
