Tasting Notes
Jasper Morris – 92
Bright pale colour. The fruit and the oak are very well harnessed here. This is quite lively on the palate, with a generous ripeness of fruit, without too much of the yellow plums. Correct acidity, and fair length.

(from Les Fairendes and La Cardeuse; the Moreaus produced 50% of a normal crop here): Inviting aromas of pineapple, pear and white peach lifted by flowers and herbs. Larger-scaled and more obviously structured than the Maltroie (and quite typical of Morgeot), with its rich, ripe orchard and citrus fruit flavors still a bit youthfully imploded. An element of lemon zest keeps the middle palate fresh. The long, rising aftertaste is at once powerful and classically dry. Lay this one down.

Whiffs of sulfur and reduction do not completely mask the underlying aromas of resin and ripe pear. There is excellent concentration to the big-bodied and muscular flavors that are also supported by plenty of dry extract on the firmly structured, long and zest-inflected finish. This rustic but impressive effort is decidedly old school in style.
John Gilman – 94
I always love Alex Moreau’s example of Morgeot, which I find more elegant and minerally than many from this large appellation. The 2016 is outstanding here, offering up a stunning bouquet of pear, apple, a touch of pastry cream, chalky minerality, apple blossoms and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and utterly classic in profile, with a very good core (but not overly concentrated by any stretch of the imagination), bright, snappy acids and a very, very long, pure and complex finish of nearly unbounded energy and class. Exceptional Morgeot!

Very important to be able to manage barrels when you have a small harvest so as not to overoak the wines or end up with too many empty barrels, which need lots of care. He reduced his barrel order. A floral note again. Great texture and excitement on the palate. Hint of smoke and cordite. Real citrus tension and very long indeed.
