Tasting Notes
Burghound – 91-93
Here too there is a hint of the sauvage but the spice and floral elements render the ripe nose somewhat more elegant even with the ample earth nuances on the plum and dark berry liqueur scents. Once again there is excellent volume, focused power and concentration to the intense medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a serious and moderately austere but not really rustic finale. At the risk of sounding like a broken record though this is very structured and will absolutely require extended bottle age to shed its considerable tannic spine.

Cask sample. Dark fruit and heavy tannic fuzz – a world apart from the generosity and lift of their Gevrey-Chambertin Craipillot. Impressive but formidable. Doesn’t lack fruit power, but the structure is more assertive at this stage. (RH)

Vinous – 90-93
Bright ruby-red. Compelling high-pitched aromas of crushed blackberry and blood orange. Very densely packed and primary, with bright acidity framing its tactile flavors of dark raspberry and black cherry. This tastes like a much younger barrel sample than 14 months. Communicates texture without weight, along with a complicating saline element. Dusty tannins build quickly and turn a bit chewy, accentuating the wine’s austerity.
