Tasting Notes
Vinous – 89+
Bright, full red. Cherry, redcurrant, smoked meat and a whiff of underbrush on the nose. Supple and fine-grained but quite young, showing more savory soil tones and smokiness than youthful fruit. The wine’s powerful tannins call for aging. Not my favorite style, as I don’t find quite enough primary fruit to buffer the strong smoky, flinty minerality.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2030
Burghound – 91-93
A discreet if not invisible application of wood sets off earthy liqueur-like aromas of black raspberry, rose petal and exotic tea scents. There is a sleek muscularity to the bold, powerful and lightly mineral-inflected flavors that possess fine intensity on the balanced and beautifully persistent finish. This is good stuff as it’s Corton-like but elegant.
