Tasting Notes
Burghound – 94
There is just enough reduction present to warrant decanting this should you decide to try a bottle young though I would strongly advise allowing this at least 6 to 8 years of bottle age first as it would be a waste given how much potential this wine possesses. There is a wonderfully silky texture that adds interest to the tautly muscled and powerful big-bodied flavors that explode on the palate staining and notably dry finish. This is seriously impressive but like the 2012 version it’s finer than it usually is.
Vinous – 94+
Pale bright yellow. Sexy perfume of lemon, lime, clove and white flowers. A step up in weight and power from the Bienvenue, but still with lovely lift to the generous flavors of ripe peach and spices. Wonderfully energetic, tactile wine with terrific rising length and grip, and a late mineral character that contributes finesse. But this big, rich, backward Batard will need time to express itself.
JancisRobinson.com – 17.5
Pale. Quite low key on the nose for a Bâtard. Then some pretty broad fruit on the palate but almost more Leflaive than Bâtard! Restrained and very delineated and with lots of acidity. Not as rich as most though it develops on the end…
Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030
