Sweet spot Outstanding – A notably elegant nose of ripe and pure white and yellow orchard fruit, lemon zest, pain grillé and a hint of spice marries into rich, generous and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess ample dry extract and excellent mid-palate concentration. There is a firm but ripe acid spine that shapes and supports the palate staining and perfumed finish. While not destined to be one of the genuinely great examples of Sauzet Combettes, this is still a stunner of a 1er. (Drink starting 2019)

Substantial mouthfilling stuff with real zest. Quite pretty. Lots of fruit and well balanced.

Pale, bright, green-tinged yellow. Sexy aromas of white nectarine and minerals complicated by oak notes of vanilla and toast. Dense, pure and precise, with a distinctly sappy, tactile quality to the savory flavors of white stone fruits and crushed rock. This really saturates the palate with flavor and builds on the aftertaste. Superb premier cru with the energy to support a leisurely evolution in bottle.

The 2011 Combettes is an absolute classic in the making, delivering a very citric bouquet of apple, tangerine, lemon and orange zest, a beautiful base of complex minerality, apple blossoms, incipient notes of paraffin and a lovely base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and almost silky on the attack, with a fine core, ripe, crisp acids and exceptional length and grip on the laser-like finish. This will be a very special bottle of wine in the fullness of time.
