2005 Soldera Case Basse, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1x75cl

Savoury nose and generally more earthbound than the 2009 Case Basse. Quite rich and sweet with lightly gamey notes though overall jewelly in composition. Dense and spicy with a good mineral-scented backbone. It opened up in the glass to a sweeter wine than most in this vertical. Great balance and some concentration. [24/11/2016]

My most recent tasting of the 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva revealed a somewhat slender, compact wine by Soldera standards. The 2005 offers lovely overall balance, perfume and freshness, but not quite the visceral thrill that makes Soldera’s finest wines so alluring. [Antonio Galloni, 01/10/2016]
