Tasting Notes
John Gilman – 92
The 1995 Combottes is a bit deeper-pitched on both the nose and palate than many of these other vintages from the 1990s, but it is beginning to come around nicely after a fairly long period of hibernation. The excellent nose offers up scents of red and black cherries, a touch of leather, emerging notes of forest floor, game and a touch of spicy oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, long and complex, with fine mid-palate depth, blossoming notes of autumnal maturity, moderate tannins and fine length and grip on the complex finish. A fine bottle of Combottes that needs just a few more years of cellaring to fully resolve its tannins and reach its apogee.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2040

Very good medium red. Floral, faintly tarry, red berry nose is perfumed and bright. Silky in texture and deeper than the ’96s. Has a tangy, sappy quality in the mouth. Concentrated and rather full. Finishes with slightly dry, tongue-dusting tannins.
