Tasting Notes
Robert Parker – 89
This is one of the better bottles of Haut-Brion ’88s that I have had. A deep garnet hue with a deep brick rim. The nose is austere and conservative with cedar, pine, leather and cigar box but good definition and vigour. The palate displays fresh acidity, an austere, slightly lean character with a firmness creeping in towards the finish. Great purity though, but just lacking something in the middle. Drink now. Tasted September 2007.

Sweeter and more caramelised dark fruit on the nose than the Pichon Lalande 1988 tasted alongside. Hint of jam on nose. And then very tight. Almost rugged next to the lightweight Pichon, with a hint of pepperiness. Much more texture on the tannins. Power and still dark fruit and very slight burnt on the finish. Held up well and good with roast beef. (TC)
