Antoine Lienhardt

This Wine Deserves Serious Attention

Since the remarkable vintage of 2019, Domaine Antoine Lienhardt has emerged as one of Burgundy’s most exciting producers. Antoine demonstrates that by treating wines with the reverence of a Grand Cru, cuvées from the underrated Comblanchien can transcend the appellation’s reputation. Emphasizing the ecological interplay of “water-air-soil,” he has transitioned to organic farming complemented by biodynamic practices. The guiding principle of Antoine’s winemaking is to nurture soil vitality and uphold the integrity of water cycles and resources.

While some may brush them off as merely another natural Burgundy, we strongly recommend giving them serious consideration. Those fortunate enough to experience these wines can attest to their remarkable purity of fruit, seamless integration of stems, and overall harmony.

Highly Underrated Plots “Emphase”

This cuvée blends grapes from seven parcels of ancient vines, averaging around 80 years old, encompassing the diverse terroirs of Comblanchien. Clay, rocky, and sandy soils, situated both on the hillside and the plain, contribute to the wine’s captivating beauty and remarkable complexity.

This is beautifully perfumed, pure, and seductive, with a weightless intensity that transcends preconceived notions of its appellation. Decant for 2-3 hours if drinking young, but keep a couple of bottles back to develop and then enjoy Pinot Noir at its magical best.

History and Vinification

Antoine is the 4th generation of winemakers at the family domain Guyot-Lienhardt, situated in Comblanchien between Dijon and Beaune on the Côte d’Or in Burgundy. Since assuming management of the domain in 2011, a significant number of highly ambitious initiatives have been implemented, all aimed at enhancing the quality of the wines. Since 2017, he has also received assistance from his sister Héloïse in managing the wines from their 4.2 hectares of vineyards.

The field work follows biodynamic principles and has been fully certified since 2018. The fields Antoine works with date back to the 1960s when his grandfather was in charge of wine production. The tractor has been replaced by a horse since 2015, and Antoine now plants trees in the fields to shield them from nearby neighbors who have not chosen an equally conscientious approach to field work.

In the cellar, they work with 100% whole bunches and zero added sulfur during vinification, and they utilize concrete and amphora for elevage. Gentle maceration without strong extraction, no additions, zero clarification or filtration, and the use of new barrels are completely omitted.
